IPCOMM delivered ipConvLite gateways connecting the slave devices (RTU, slave station) with the SCADA (National Control Center (NCC), master station).
The communication between gateway and RTUs or SCADA runs over the protocols IEC 60870-5-101 and IEC 60870-5-104. In the direction of RTUs the gateway is configured as "master", towards SCADA the gateway is configured as "slave".
As hardware platform our industrial PC IPC191V2WIN 19" 1U with a CompactFlash as mass storage is used. The operating system is Windows XP. Maximum 10,000 data points can be transmitted.
The serial (RS-232) connection with external devices is done over the V.24 standard.
The transmission of the data in direction to the Energy Management System of the NCC is done via four RS-232 uplink connections. The data coming from the RTUs can be split up to the four uplink channels. Per uplink channel maximum 2,000 data points shall be transmitted.
The gateways operate redundantly in "hot standby" mode. This means only one of the two devices is active at any time. The passive device monitors the active one and if the active one fails, the passive one automatically steps in and resumes communication. The redundant connection of the serial lines is carried out physically with our channel switch CS. The control of the channel switch is automatically done by the gateway. The monitoring between the gateways occurs by a separate RS-232 interface connection.
