In this project, the legacy communication system was to be overhauled and modernized. The
first stage involved the installation of a new RTU, which acts as a data
concentrator for the existing RTUs. In the second stage, a new control station was
to speed up communication.
Realization of the first stage requires two ipConv protocol converters for each
system.
Protocol converter #1 is needed for coupling the new RTU with the legacy control
station. Protocol converter #2 connects the legacy RTUs with the new RTU (data
concentrator).
The control station and the legacy RTUs communicate over the HN Z 66-S-11/15, T63 protocol,
while DNP 3.0 is used for communication with the new RTU.
Background
Before the legacy HNZ control station is replaced
(2nd stage), the new RTU technology needs to be tested. During this test
phase, both converters are needed.
After initialization of the 2nd stage, the new control station is to communicate
directly with the RTU via DNP 3.0.
The operator of the installation is the Indonesian
utility provider PT PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara).
