This project involved the linking of 15 Siemens Sinaut LSA control systems
using our
ipConv protocol converter to the control center via redundant lines.
Conversion is between the protocols P6008 and IEC 60870-5-101 / unbalanced mode.
An IPC194 19" 4U system supplies the hardware platform.
Background
The
protocol converter and the control station are located at Hassi Messaoud, about 800 km
south of Alger and 50 km southeast of Ouargla. The Algerian electricity
supplier is both the end customer and operator of the power station. The
objective was to increase its capacity from 6,300 MW (in 2003) to 9,000 MW (by
2010). As SONELGAZ' monopoly will fall in the next few years, the overhaul was
to enable SONEGAZ to succeed in a more competitive environment.
Currently, about 98% of Algerian households are connected to the power grid. By
the end of 2004, another 110,000 were added, so that the existing network (of about
217,000 km) was extended by 12,000 km.
